Lash lift and brow lamination FAQs for professionals

This is a quick reference for lash and brow technicians using Ladybug Lashes lift and lamination products. In short: patch test every client 24–48 hours before treatment, judge processing by the hair rather than the clock, allow a little extra Step 1 time if you use lash lift balm, and let the 24-hour aftercare period finish before adding a growth serum or extensions. Always follow the instructions supplied with your kit, your training and your insurer’s requirements.

Do I need to patch test before a lash lift or brow lamination?

Yes. Patch test 24–48 hours before the treatment, and follow your insurer’s rules on repeat patch tests for returning clients. A clear patch test is reassuring, but it does not guarantee a client will never react, so stay alert during the service and stop straight away if there is irritation.

How long should I process each step?

As a starting point for the Express Cysteamine system, Step 1 timings depend on hair type:

Hair type Suggested Step 1 time
Fine 4–5 minutes
Normal 5–6 minutes
Coarse 6–7 minutes

These guides assume a room temperature of around 22–24°C. Hair condition, previous treatments, how you place the product, temperature and whether you use film all make a difference, so assess the hair as you go rather than relying on the timer alone.

Does lash lift balm extend processing time?

It can. Balm adds a thin barrier between the lotion and the hair, which can slow things down slightly. With Ladybug’s lash lift balm, add roughly 10–15% to your Step 1 time. For a 6-minute Step 1, that means about 36–54 seconds more. This adjustment applies to Step 1 only. Use a thin, even layer: the thicker the balm, the bigger the effect.

Can I use film?

It depends on the system. Express Cysteamine can be used with lamination film. The Flutter & Frame system is designed to be used without film. Film changes how the lotion sits against the hair, so keep checking the hair rather than relying on standard timings.

What does Step 3 do, and how long should it stay on?

Step 3 is a leave-on nourishing conditioner. Leave it in place and ask clients to keep lashes and brows dry and product-free for 24 hours afterwards.

Can a lash growth serum be used with a lash lift or extensions?

Ladybug’s prostaglandin-free lash and brow growth serum can be used alongside a lift or extensions once the 24-hour aftercare period is over. Clients apply it twice a day and should allow at least six weeks before judging the results. If a client’s natural lashes are in poor condition, it is sometimes better to pause extensions for a while; use your professional judgement.

How should I store opened sachets?

Use opened sachets within 14 days. Close them airtight, store them somewhere cool, and decant only the amount you need for each client.

What does “cosmetic grade” mean?

“Cosmetic grade” is not an official certification and does not mean a product is hypoallergenic. What matters is that a cosmetic sold in Great Britain has a safety assessment and a Product Information File, which are legal requirements, and that you follow the instructions for use. The Express Cysteamine system is made in the UK, vegan and cruelty-free.

What safety basics should I follow?

  • Wear gloves. Step 2 contains hydrogen peroxide.
  • Keep products away from the eyes. If any product gets into an eye, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Stop the treatment if the client feels discomfort or irritation.
  • These products are for professional use only.
