Bobbi Beck - Pattern Paste the Wall Hanging Guide

Use this guide when installing Bobbi Beck repeating pattern wallpaper using the Paste the Wall method. Careful wall preparation, accurate cutting and correct pattern matching will help achieve the best possible finish.

If you notice any issue with the wallpaper during installation, stop hanging it and contact us as soon as possible with photographs so that we can look into this before you continue.

Tools You Will Need

• Ready-mixed wallpaper paste
• Paint brush
• Sharp knife
• Sponge
• Spirit level
• Wallpaper smoother

Step 1 - Wall Preparation

The wall should be smooth, clean, dry and an even colour before hanging the wallpaper. Fill and sand any holes, cracks or imperfections, and remove dust, grease, loose paint and old adhesive.

Textured walls should be skimmed smooth or covered with suitable lining paper. New plaster and other absorbent surfaces should be sealed with an appropriate wallpaper primer before installation.

Step 2 - Measure and Cut Your Drops

Measure the height of your wall and transfer the measurement to the reverse of the wallpaper.

Cut the first drop allowing an additional 100mm (4in) at both the top and bottom for trimming.

Check the match type and pattern repeat shown for your chosen wallpaper before cutting the remaining drops. When measuring subsequent lengths, allow for the pattern match and cut each drop in sequence.

Step 3 - Paste the Wall and Begin Hanging

Apply the adhesive directly to the wall using a brush, cutting in carefully around edges, corners and fittings.

For accurate positioning, measure the width of the wallpaper and lightly mark the wall with a pencil. Use a spirit level to draw a straight vertical guideline from ceiling to floor and align the first drop to this line.

Paste approximately one drop-width of wall at a time so the adhesive does not begin drying before the wallpaper is hung. Work from the top down and smooth out any ripples or air bubbles using a wallpaper smoother.

Once the drop is correctly positioned, trim the excess wallpaper at the ceiling and skirting board using a sharp blade before the paste has fully dried.

Step 4 - Continue Hanging

Carefully match the pattern on each subsequent drop and butt the edges together without overlapping them.

Press the seams firmly to create a neat finish. Avoid getting adhesive on the face of the wallpaper and gently remove any accidental paste with a damp sponge.

After Installation

Allow the wallpaper to dry naturally at room temperature for at least 24 hours. Avoid significant changes in temperature or humidity while it dries.
