Accurate measurements are essential when ordering Bobbi Beck wallpaper, particularly for patterned designs and custom-sized wall murals. Taking a little extra time to measure your wall correctly can help ensure you order the right amount of wallpaper and achieve the best possible result when it is installed.
Use the guide below to find the best way to measure your space, including standard walls, walls with doors or other obstacles, adjoining walls, pitched walls and staircases.
Measuring for Patterned Wallpaper
When measuring for patterned wallpaper, it is important to allow for the pattern repeat as well as the overall dimensions of the wall. The pattern repeat is the vertical distance before the design begins again and can affect the amount of wallpaper required, particularly on taller walls or when covering several surfaces.
Check the pattern repeat for your chosen wallpaper and allow sufficient additional wallpaper for matching the design accurately at joins and corners.
Measuring for Custom-Sized Wall Murals
Bobbi Beck wall murals are made to your chosen wall dimensions, so accurate measurements are particularly important. Measure your wall in several places rather than relying on a single measurement, as walls, ceilings and floors may not be perfectly straight.
Round measurements up to the nearest centimetre or inch to help avoid leaving any gaps.
Standard Single Walls
Measure the full width and full height of the wall from edge to edge. Skirting boards and coving do not need to be included unless the mural itself will be covering them.
Walls with Doors, Windows or Other Obstacles
Measure the dimensions of the entire wall, even where part of it contains a door, window, socket or another obstacle. For murals, the design is produced to cover the complete wall area and the sections around these features are trimmed during installation.
Multiple Conjoined Walls
If your mural will continue across two or more connected walls, including around an internal corner, measure the combined width of all the walls as one continuous space.
For the height, measure to the highest point across the walls so that there is sufficient wallpaper for full coverage.
Pitched or Sloping Walls
For pitched or sloping walls, measure the wall at its highest and widest points. Custom murals are produced as rectangles, so the wallpaper covering the angled section can be trimmed to shape during installation.
Measuring the maximum width and height ensures there is enough wallpaper to cover the complete wall, including areas beneath a sloping ceiling.
Staircase Walls
Staircase walls can be a little more complex to measure. Measure the full span from the lowest to the highest point of the staircase wall, together with the total width of the area to be covered.
For more unusual spaces, taking a photograph and making a simple sketch showing the dimensions can also be helpful when confirming your measurements.
