    Calendula 'Sherbet Fizz' Seeds

If you find standard orange marigolds too bright, 'Sherbet Fizz' offers a sophisticated, vintage alternative. This stunning variety produces tightly packed, semi-double blooms in shades of soft buff, cream, and pale lemon.

The magic is in the detail: the underside of each petal is brushed with deep raspberry-red, and the tips often look like they have been dipped in pink paint. As the petals unfurl, this creates a "fizzing" effect of contrasting colours. It is a designer favourite for cut flower arrangements, adding a warm, antique feel to bouquets.

    🌿 Understanding the Plant

    Calendula is a Hardy Annual.

It is tough, reliable, and easy to grow. 'Sherbet Fizz' is a selection of Calendula officinalis chosen for its unique, bicolour petals and tightly curled centre.

The "Colour Shift": The flowers look different at different times of the day. In the evening, when the flowers partially close, the dark red undersides become more visible, changing the whole look of the plant from cream to rusty-red.

🌱 Growing Guide: How to Sow and Grow

This is a "sow and forget" flower perfect for beginners.

    Germination:
Sow directly outdoors where they are to flower. For summer blooms, sow March-May. For early spring blooms next year, sow in Autumn (Sept). Cover seeds with 1cm of soil. Germination is rapid (7-10 days).

    Where to Sow:
They love **full sun** but tolerate partial shade. They will grow in almost any soil type, from sandy loam to heavy clay. They are excellent for filling gaps in borders.

    Care While Growing:
Deadhead: To keep the "fizz" going, you must pick the flowers. If you let them go to seed, the plant stops blooming. The more you cut for the house, the more it grows.

    🤝 Perfect Garden Companions

The muted buff and pink tones of 'Sherbet Fizz' look great with soft, romantic partners:

    • 🎀 Cosmos 'Fizzy Rose': The Ruffled Mix. Both plants have that "double," ruffled look and share a white/pink/picotee colour scheme. Growing them together creates a frothy, romantic border.
    • 🌫️ Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist): The Vintage Look. The pale blue of Nigella is the perfect cool contrast to the warm buff-apricot of the Calendula. It looks like a faded chintz fabric pattern come to life.
