Carex acutiformis

Carex acutiformis, commonly known as lesser pond-sedge, is a tall, clump-forming perennial with upright, arching green leaves and dense, grass-like tussocks. It produces inconspicuous brownish flower spikes in summer, which rise slightly above the foliage, providing subtle texture and structure rather than showy blooms.

This species is valuable for wetland biodiversity, offering shelter for small wildlife and stabilising pond margins and damp soils. Its upright, dense habit makes it ideal for naturalistic water gardens, pond edges, and wet meadow planting schemes.
