We love this camera, and we want you to love it too! Check out our blog post for info on battery, recording and positioning considerations, so you can make an informed choice about whether it’s the perfect one for you.
Sunlight, camera, action! A combination of battery power and solar panels makes this bird box and wildlife camera admire without the wires; able without the cables; use solar without the… molars? (OK, forget that last one.)
This versatile window to the wild is weatherproof, and its 2 ¼ inch mounting holes provide flexible mounting options. Focus on your bird feeder, use it as a garden camera, or put it in our Solar Camera Ready Bird Box – the choice is yours.
We got bored of seeing a black screen after dark, so we added the latest LED night vision technology for continued viewing once the sun sets – the camera’s battery powers it at night and during cloudy days.
We’ve also included a 12v power lead which can recharge both the solar panel and camera battery, in case you want some extra camera life during the busy nesting season.
Add a Micro SD Memory Card and you’ll be able to save the action for future enjoyment. Please format it before camera use.
Use the official Green Feathers app to stream live or watch pre-recorded footage in HD, and share the best bits with your (probably non-feathered) friends and family.
Please note: due to the battery powered nature of the camera, it does not support Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
Why choose a solar powered bird box camera?
A wired bird box camera needs a cable running back to your house or a nearby power supply, which can limit where you put your bird box. A solar powered bird box camera takes care of its own power, which means:
-
No trailing cables or drilling through walls
-
More freedom to position your bird box in a quiet, sheltered spot that birds will actually use
-
Less disturbance for nesting birds, as there’s no need to reach the box to change batteries
-
A lower-impact way to watch wildlife, using energy from the sun
As with any battery powered camera, running time depends on how much activity the camera records and how much sunlight the panel receives. Busy nests and long spells of grey weather will use more power, which is where the included power lead comes in handy. Our battery life and installation guide explains what to expect.
Where to put your solar bird box camera
For the best results, mount the solar panel where it will receive plenty of direct daylight, ideally facing south, whilst keeping the bird box itself out of strong midday sun and prevailing winds. You’ll also need a reliable 2.4GHz WiFi signal at the camera’s location. Take a look at our tips for placing your bird box, and find out when to put up a bird box so it’s ready in time for nesting season.
