A hand-carved wooden bowl from South Africa, shaped from a single piece of timber by a local maker. The grain runs right through it, and small shifts in tone and form mean no two are quite alike.

Shallow and easy to live with, it works for fruit or bread on the table, as a catch-all by the door, or simply as a sculptural piece on a shelf.
