Igbo Handwoven Throw TR40

A handwoven Akwete cloth throw from Nigeria — traditionally woven by Igbo women on an upright frame loom with a continuous warp. The base cloth is cotton, with decorative motifs added in heavier or contrasting thread; more elaborate modern versions use silk, rayon or lurex.

Each motif has its own name and meaning, with certain patterns traditionally reserved for royalty.
