- Bog gardens and stream sides
- Full sun for the best pink colour
Does it spread?
Yes, quickly. It roots wherever its stems touch the soil and is considered invasive in several US states. It is not a restricted plant in the UK, but grow it in a basket and never put it into streams, ditches or natural ponds.
Is it safe to eat?
Do not eat it. Its relative, the native hemlock water-dropwort, is deadly poisonous in all parts and grows in UK ditches and streams. Many other water dropworts are toxic too, so never pick or eat any of them.
How to plant and care for it
Plant in spring in wet soil or shallow water. Watch for aphids, slugs and snails.
Which size should I buy?
Bare-root plants (7 cm, 9 cm, 1 litre and 3 litre) arrive without a pot or compost and are the most economical way to plant a group. Potted plants (9 cm, 1 litre and 3 litre) arrive growing in our peat-free compost and give a faster display. Packs of 3 come in 7 cm, 9 cm, 1 litre and 3 litre bare-root sizes and cost less per plant. The 2x Pot & Compost option is two plants supplied with pots and compost.
