Ludisia is a genus of orchids that contains just two species, one being the Ludisia discolor, commonly referred to as the jewel orchid. They are native to Southern China, Northeast India, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Burma.
This houseplant has gorgeous deep purple-black leaves with thin stripes and its tall stems produce small white flowers. Unlike other orchids, this variety is sought after because of its foliage rather than its flowers. While most orchids grow as an epiphyte, jewel orchids prefer to grow in the ground. Very easy to propagate from cuttings.
