The Mammillaria pringlei is native to Mexico. It is a cylindrical cactus that can reach up to 20cm in diameter. It has many tubercles covering its surface giving it a pin cushion appearance. This particular mammillaria has golden spines and a green body and combined with its cylindrical shape gives this cacti its common name 'Lemon ball cactus'. Spines have a dual function they are a defence against herbivores but also provide shade to cactus. The top of each column will produce a ring of bright red/purple flowers.
