Mapula embroidered cushion 40x40 - South Africa

A hand-embroidered cushion cover from the Mapula ("Mother of Rain") embroidery project in South Africa, where around 150 women design and stitch original work by hand — pieces from the collective are held in museums and private collections worldwide. Since 1991 the income has helped the embroiderers support and educate their families.

Beautifully embroidered cover — no inner. Each is unique. One of the embroiderers' name labels is attached to the cover and can easily be removed if you prefer (see image).
