Ombre Rose
Bulgarian rose over smoky oud, saffron and salty ambergris — our Extrait de Parfum alternative to LV Les Sables Roses, hand-poured in England.
Desert dusk in a bottle. Ombre Rose is built on the rose-and-oud pairing that Middle Eastern perfumery perfected and Louis Vuitton reinterpreted in Les Sables Roses — deep, resinous, and considerably more interesting than either note is alone.
What lifts it above a straightforward rose-oud is the ambergris: a salty, mineral warmth that stops the composition getting dense and gives it that sun-on-skin quality. Built as an Extrait de Parfum, it's made for the after-dark hour.
The scent pyramid
It opens with sharp black pepper and silken saffron, flickering like embers. Bulgarian rose absolute spills into the heart alongside a salty kiss of ambergris. Underneath, smoky oud, warm woods and soft musk create the trail.

What makes it different
-
✓
Ambergris is the difference
Plenty of rose-oud fragrances exist. The salty, mineral ambergris accord is what separates this profile from the rest — it keeps the composition airy where a straight rose-oud turns dense.
-
✓
Rose without the sweetness
Bulgarian rose absolute is deep and slightly jammy rather than powdery or sweet. Paired with saffron and pepper, it reads as sophisticated rather than floral.
-
✓
Hand-poured in England
Blended, filled and checked by hand at our Newton-le-Willows workshop, in small batches rather than on an industrial line.

What does Louis Vuitton Les Sables Roses smell like?
It's a rose-oud fragrance with a distinctive salty-mineral ambergris accord, lifted by saffron and pepper. Ombre Rose follows the same structure — pepper and saffron on top, Bulgarian rose and ambergris in the heart, smoky oud and warm woods underneath.
How close is Ombre Rose to the original?
It's built around the same core accord. Customers who own both generally describe it as very close rather than indistinguishable, which is an honest description of any well-made inspired fragrance. Reviews are published below, including the critical ones.
Is it too feminine for men?
No. Rose has a long history in masculine perfumery, particularly in the Middle East, and the oud and pepper here keep it firmly unisex. It's worn widely by both.
How long does it last?
Oud, woods and ambergris are among the longest-lasting materials in perfumery, so this profile has considerably more staying power than a fresh or citrus scent. Longevity still varies with skin type and temperature.
Which size should I start with?
If you haven't tried this scent profile, start with the 10ml travel spray. Rose-oud is polarising — worth testing before committing to a full bottle.
Ombre Rose is an original fragrance created by Alexandria Fragrances UK.
