Philodendron hereraceum var. hederaceum is often sold under the incorrect name Philodendron scandens micans due to its slightly more complicated botanical name. The plant originates from Tropical America and is a sought-after houseplant due to its easy care and beautiful foliage.

The name Philodendron derives from the Greek philo (love) and dendron (tree) as this hemi-epiphyte plant loves to grow up the trunks of trees in its native habitat. The common name, Velvet Leaf Philodendron, refers to the soft texture of the leaves that are a deep green colour with beautiful purple-red hues underneath when the plant is juvenile.

RATING: Easy to care for. Philodendron hederaceum is a glorious trailing plant which is very low maintenance.

LOVES: Philodendron hederaceum enjoys being frequently misted, being watered once the compost has dried out and kept in a bright spot out of direct sunlight.

HATES: Poor light and dry air - these are not the friends of your Philodendron hederaceum.
