An ingenious and practical choice to construct a sizeable notice board or to soundproof and insulate your walls. To affix these twist natural tiles to the wall, we recommend using contact adhesive. Successful assembly necessitates a clean and dry surface free of dust. Make sure the wall surface is even for the tiles to attach properly — thus, it is critical to prepare the wall surface extensively with either grounding or cleaning.

📌 Pin Compatibility Guide — 8 mm Tile
At 8 mm thick, these tiles provide a solid pin-holding layer for everyday notice board use. The guide below covers the pin types best suited to this thickness, so your pins stay secure and do not pass through to the wall behind.
| Tile Thickness | Recommended Pin Type | Max Pin Shaft Length | Pins Penetrate Wall? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 mm (this tile) | Standard push-pins / thumb tacks | ≤ 6 mm | No — safe on plaster, painted and wallpapered walls when glued flat | Pin sits fully within the cork. Ideal for paper notes, photos and lightweight items. |
| 8 mm (this tile) | T-pins | ≤ 6 mm | No | Good for fabric swatches or heavier paper. Avoid long sewing pins (> 7 mm shaft). |
| 8 mm (this tile) | Long map pins / sewing pins | > 8 mm | Yes — pin reaches the wall surface | Not recommended unless tiles are mounted over a timber backing board (see below). |
⚠️ Using Longer Pins?
If you need to use pins with a shaft longer than 8 mm (e.g. map pins, hat pins), install the tiles over a 12 mm MDF or plywood backing board first. The combined depth (8 mm cork + 12 mm board = 20 mm) will contain even the longest standard pins and protect your wall.
✅ Backing Recommendations
- Short push-pins ≤ 6 mm shaft: Glue directly to the wall — no additional backing needed.
- Map pins or long pins > 8 mm shaft: Mount on a 12 mm MDF or plywood panel first, then glue the cork tile to the panel.
- High-traffic boards or heavy items: Use a backing board regardless of pin length for extra rigidity.
🧪 Order a Sample First
Want to test pin depth and surface texture before committing to a full order? Each product listing includes a sample size of approximately 30 × 15 cm at the same 8 mm thickness — simply select the sample option. You can also view the 600 × 300 mm tile if a smaller format suits your project better.
🔧 Recommended Adhesive
For a permanent, flush bond to the wall or a backing board, we recommend the Wakol D3540 Contact Adhesive — our verified adhesive for cork tile installation. Apply to both surfaces, allow to tack off, then press firmly and roll with a J-Roller for best results.
