Cats have always chosen the box. This one simply arrives already looking like something you would leave out on purpose. The walls are printed edge to edge in a woven plaid, in two colourways: Pink & Green, which runs pink, sage grey, forest green, cyan and crimson, and Blue & Brown, which runs cobalt, chocolate, orange and cyan. The zeze wordmark sits in white across the front panel.

Set into the base is a corrugated scratch pad, laid flush so it fills the floor of the box. That single detail is what makes it work as furniture rather than as packaging: the cat lounges on the same surface it scratches, so the box holds its attention through a nap and a stretch and a bout of shredding without ever needing to be moved.

The walls stand 16 cm high, which is enough enclosure for a cat to feel walled in while still watching the room over the edge. Both short ends carry a cut-out oval handle, useful for carrying the box from the bedroom to the sitting room, and just as readily used as a paw-through by whoever is inside.

A small sachet of catnip comes in the box. Scatter a pinch over the pad the first time you set it down. Cardboard is a consumable and zeze treat it as one, so when the flutes are finally worn flat, that is the box having earned its keep.

The footprint is 44.5 × 29 cm, generous enough for a cat to lie out full length rather than fold itself in.
